Qualcomm VP of Wireless Health, Global Strategy & Market Development
It's been exciting for me to play a role in the convergence between wireless technologies and health over the past 10 years and I see the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition as an impetus to accelerate innovations within the health space even more rapidly. The XPRIZE Foundation announced the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE on stage at CES in January 2012 with our CEO, Dr. Paul Jacobs, and we already have over 200 total pre-registered teams from 27 countries.
Recently at the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance 7th Annual Convergence Summit XPRIZE recently launched the Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE, an exciting opportunity to push the envelope in advancing health-related sensor technologies. I'm very interested to see how Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE teams might incorporate those sensors into their solutions.
Devices offered as a service will be key in the next generation of healthcare solutions. By mashing up data from multiple sensors that span therapies and disease states services can be created based on personal feedback, dashboards and incentives that are both relevant and unique to individual consumers. And in the case of the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, even make diagnoses. Globally, these challenges are bringing people together to transform the future of healthcare. I don't know about you, but I'm excited to see it emerge as reality.
